Jardín muerto

Cae lluviosa la mañana sobre el jardín... Al fin de una cuesta fangosa y junto a una cruz, verde y negra por la humedad, está la puerta de madera carcomida que da entrada al recinto abandonado. Más allá hay un puente de piedra gris, y en la distancia brumosa una montaña nevada. En el fondo del valle y entre peñas corre el río manso tarareando su vieja canción. En una covacha negra que hay junto a la puerta, dos viejos con capas rotas se calientan a la lumbre de unos tizones mal encendidos... El interior del recinto es angustioso y desolado. La lluvia acentúa más esta impresión. Se resbala con facilidad. En el suelo hay grandes troncos muertos...

Las paredes, altas y amarillas, están cruzadas de grietas enormes, por las que salen las lagartijas, que pasean formando con sus cuerpos arabescos indescifrables. En el fondo hay un resto de claustro con yedras y flores secas, con las columnas inclinadas. En las rendijas de las piedras desmoronadas hay flores amarillas llenas de gotas de lluvia; en los suelos hay charcos de humedad entre las hierbas...
